FAA (aviation)

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the national aviation authority of the United States, an agency of the United States Department of Transportation. The FAA is responsible for aviation security, administration of pilot certificates, control of U.S. airspace and the environmental consequences of civilian aviation.

Directives

These directives are produced by the U.S. Military General Staff, and describe the chain of command in case of aviation hijackings.

The directives establish that the FAA is responsible for handling hijackings, and has authorization to request assistance from the military, in case of hijackings.

Communication

In the aftermath, hundreds of pages have been released, documenting the communication between the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), North Eastern Air Defense Sector (NEADS), and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
